What has been the most rewarding moment during your time on the school board so far?

Being part of such a great group of individuals who sole purpose is focused on providing each child in the LPPS a high quality education, preparing them to become happy and productive citizens, and keeping them safe. During the Flood of 2016 and Covid, we keep our kids in school. Keeping our kids in the classroom no matter what the cost proved invaluable to their learning.

How can educators and community members best partner with the school board?

The community and educators can work best with the school board by bringing their ideas and encouraging their students and educators. They can also help look for funding sources both public and private.

Do you have a favorite quote or personal motto?

I like to play at gardening. I am not very good at it and probably have more plants die than live.  I have had success growing tomatoes, but I do not like them so I give them away.

What do you enjoy most about interacting with students, staff, or the community?

Interacting gives me the opportunity to get feedback and see how someone really feels about something. It gives you the opportunity to be part of that student's life when they tell you what they are passionate about such as a project, study, or a sport, and what they accomplished or hope to accomplish.

When it comes to interacting with teachers and administration, I enjoy finding out what will help them in making their jobs a little easier or what they need for the kids and being able to help provide those things for them.

What leadership value guides you when making difficult decisions?

Lots of prayer is number one. I like gathering as much information about an issue, listening to all parties, seeking out wisdom and knowledge from others, drawing from my past experiences. determine the impact to go forward or not, estimating cost, discernment, more pray that your decision is best for all.

What is one priority you’re especially passionate about right now?

There are two items as a school board member I am passionate about. One is to figure out someway to get our employees raises. They deserve it, and it is always on my mind.

The second is to expand our STEM Center to include courses related to plant operations. I believe that would inspire more kids to take Math and Sciences at earlier ages if they could see the need and outcome.
