Dr. Ronald W McMorris II D.C.

What has been the most rewarding moment during your time on the school board so far?

Finding unique ways to fund projects the schools need. As a school board member, we don't have an opportunity to shape minds directly as teachers do. Being able to help fulfill the desires of teachers in our area to help mold the kids is rewarding. If I had to pick 1 event, it would be my first Robotics tournament at Springfield. Most of the kids there would not have had the opportunity of competing on a team. I've been around sports medicine for 26 years now and those kids put as much dedication into their match as any other sporting event I've seen. It was very enlightening.

How can educators and community members best partner with the school board?

Talk to us. Email us. The role of the school board member is different than when we were kids. The past role of the school board put the elected members more involved. The current role of the elected school board member is the financial well-being of the school. It is our job to hear the principal's needs and find ways to fund them. The funding may be simple, or it may need to be unique. Although that's our legal role, we have insight to help guide educators and community members on the right path. Another role we have is the bylaws. When educators and community members have suggestions on how to be more efficient, communicating that to their school board member helps improve the system. We have a top school system in the state, but all systems can be improved.

What do you enjoy most about interacting with students, staff, or the community?

I entered this commitment to help fan the excitement of teaching. It's an honor to hear the needs of the staff and see them smiling. It's an honor to watch the kids utilize the upgrades and I've enjoyed being in the community more. My 2026 goal and beyond is to spend more time in each school's community.

What leadership value guides you when making difficult decisions?

RICH (Respect Integrity Character Honesty). I hope I've been the school board member people expected. I hope I've been able to serve them proud both in my elected commitments and personal life. On and off the court I represent the people of District 8 directly, as well as, every resident of Livingston Parish.

What is something most people don’t know about you?

Gosh. I'm pretty open. If people don't know, they should know, I love this parish, my community, and the people I serve. I think the biggest thing most people don't know is I actually want to be here for you. My dad sat with many people on the porch and helped them in their times of concern. I hope someday everyone who knows me knows I will be there for them.

What is one priority you’re especially passionate about right now?

Each school has unique needs we will be addressing in the future. I am excited to soon present the plan to fulfill these needs to the public. My priority is to have more community meetings. The community needs to hear directly what changes, upgrades, or status quos will be met.
