What has been the most rewarding moment during your time on the school board so far?

I’m not sure that I can pinpoint one top moment, but a few highlights come to mind: collaborating with multiple campuses to strengthen school safety, helping select a new LPSB Superintendent (truly a pinch-me experience!), and working with high-enrollment elementary schools to balance student populations more effectively.

What do you enjoy most about interacting with students, staff, or the community?

I love when schools invite me out to speak to students! Whether that is through Career Days, The Amazing Shake, attending pep rallies, or speaking on government chapters students are learning about- I love connecting with the kids and hearing what changes they’d like to see made at their schools.

What leadership value guides you when making difficult decisions?

Integrity is what guides me in making difficult decisions. I strive to be open, honest, and trustworthy in decision making. Whether that means disagreeing with another member of the board or communicating a need of a stakeholder- if I keep my integrity in making the decisions that I truly feel are best- I can feel that I’m doing a good job in my seat.

What is something most people don’t know about you?

Since I was a little girl- my dream was to be Mayor of Walker. Before I realized that I don’t live within the city limits, you could always catch me dressed as the Mayor for career day!

What is one priority you’re especially passionate about right now?

Teacher pay and retention! It’s been a hot topic (understandably) for years and something everyone on the board is deeply passionate about. Our work isn’t just about increasing compensation for school staff, but also about being transparent with the public to build trust and show that we genuinely want to do more. That means having honest conversations about our funding sources compared to neighboring parishes and the challenges that come with them. Our teachers truly deserve the best, and I’m incredibly grateful that my children are being educated here.

How can educators and community members best partner with the school board?

Reach out to us! Whether that’s call, text, email- start a conversation if there’s something you’re curious about or passionate about. We have to be able to have open conversations with stakeholders- open to hearing both sides of every topic and finding a path forward that ultimately best benefits the students within LPPS.
